Lacquer?

Can you give me some advice on what to use for removing lacquer from a wooden cabinet? I'm not sure it is lacquer, but it's so hard remove, I think it must be lacquer. The cabinet is reletively old, but not antique. I am not sure of the type of wood I have here but I was able to remove the stuff from the inside of the doors and they are BEAUTIFUL!! I bought this cabinet at a thrift store, it has a dull black finish. Well, thank you for taking the time. I am new at this, obviously. Celia Williams
