tin covered antique trunk restoration

I have an antique trunk that is covered in tin (I believe), w/ a few wood slats. The tin looks to have oxidized or whatever & turned a dark color. I have stripped all the paint off of the wood & tin, but now I don't know what to do. Should this be painted, sealed, stripped to inside wood? I really want to save this trunk which was my great-grandmother's. But, don't know what to do next. What should be done to the latches & hardware? They are in good shape, but just a horrible dark color. Is it best to leave this stripped & not seal or stain the wood? Thank you for any help. It'll be greatly appreciated.
