In Response To: What type of finish for kitchen table top? (Carl E)

First strip the table then sand to 220 grit. Then the best type of finish would be one of the wipe on varnish finishes. Minwax sells one under the name Antique Oil. If you follow th directions anput on at les three coats then lightly snad with 360 grit wet/dry paper followed by another 3 coats sanded again then polished with 0000 steel wool you will have a good water resistant finish that will look good for many years.
