ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

Taking A Brass Bed Apart

We've come into possession of a beautiful, but weather-damaged brass bed. The posts were brass electroplated and the feet, knobs, center support pieces and ends are solid brass. We'd like to take it apart and do it right, but we don't have a clue on how to get it apart. The parts aren't welded. It is almost like a puzzle. There are levers inside the posts about 10-inches from the ends and unreachable with any tool we have. I do have a small picture of the bed, if you'd like me to attach the file (.jpg) to another email. Should we just leave it together and try to work around the brass? Any suggestions? Susan
