ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

Braizing old brass

I have been told by someone that should know that old brass, with unknown alloy content is difficult and even chancy to braize. I have some old brass pieces from various antiques that have broken that I cannot find replacements for that I would like to repair.

Is old brass difficult, or even chancy to braize, or could someone that is good at braizing do it? If it is difficult, requiring special skills are there people that anybody knows that would be able to do this?

The pieces I have in mind are about 1/16 inch thick or more. One piece is a hinge and the other is a chest lid holder.

Any help would be appreciated.
