dating doors

I am repairing doors from a house that is 110 years old. They are panel doors that appear to be machine made of pine with an oil based vanish finish. The frame supporting the panels is doweled togther. The owner thinks that they are original to the house but when I loosened the joints and pulled it apart I found dowels that had rings cut into them up and down their length which look to be machine cut. Does anyone know when these type of dowels became common? This information, if it can be obtained, would help us to date the doors.
