Restoring a painted finish & removing nail pol

Hi! I scrolled through the entire list of discussion questions and did not see anything about restoring a painted furniture finish! I just bought a 45-50 year-old French provencial bedroom set for my little girl. It still has the original painted finish which is in good condition for its age but it has yellowed and no longer matches the white laminate tops, which still look fairly white. I guess I don't mind the "antique white" look so much but what could I do to remove some of the yellow, and brighten and clean it so it matches the tops better? Also, there is some nail polish spilled on it in a few places. How can I remove it? Thanks so much!
