burn spots.

After stripping a barrister bookcase set I discovered that two thirds of the top had been burned, probably by a kerosene fire spill. I used wood bleach which to all apearances removed the stain. When I applied miinwax golden oak stain however the color took as brown next to the unburned/unbleached part which was a golden oak color. Does anyone know how to treat a situtation like this?? I replaced the top but I would like to know a technique for future use. Sincerely, Richard.
