ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

tarnishing brass to age it

I am trying to match some new brass that I made to some older on a piece of furniture, basically I need to tarnish it to a dark brown color.

I have a product call Blaken-zit, or something like that, that I got at a hobby shop that does a fair job but it does not quite get it dark enough and it ends up a little green.

Does anybody have a home recipe that I might try out to get a better result. I have spare brass pieces I can experiment on.

Thanks a lot
