Anne, in response to your remark about painting or finishing cane and/or rush. Cane and rush are two completely different "animals". Cane is a natural material and rush,if it is fibre rush, is paper. It's ok to put a heavy finish on the paper material, but that will completely seal the cane and cause it to become brittle. That's the difference.
