ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

grandpa's homemade cabinet

I just acquired my grandfathers old homemade cabinet. I have 2 questions. 1st is the old finish is peeling in spots. It has an old crackled painted surface. Should I remove all the old finish (which I think was done with leaded paint) or just remove the flaking paint and repair the spots that are bare? The 2nd question is one of the hinges is broken, and I cannot find a new one to match. Is there anyone who knows where I can find antique hinges. This one is a raised butterfly type. The only thing I can find are flat type butterfly hinges.
