In Response To: Re: mixing finishes on the same project (Jim Cole)

Dear Jim, Thanks for the response. The alligatoring is gone on the old finish but the finish that is left is thin. So I can put shellac over lacquer and lacquer over shellac, but would it be a good idea to put varnish on over the shellac instead of lacquer? This is a large table and I have to brush on my lacquer. I am afraid that I won't get an attractive result trying to cover such an expanse with such a fast drying finish. Also I know that lacquer isn't the toughest for repelling moisture. I am still marveling at how fast you got back to me, thanks! This whole process has been taking place in our living room because it's too humid outside right now to do it in the garage.
