In Response To: 1910 era phone (Shawn)

Phones from that era would have either a shellac or varnish finish. Clean the wood with a 50/50 mix of lacquer thinner and denatured alcohol. Apply with cotton rag or 00 steel wool sand lightly if nescessary and recoat with shellac or varnish. Apply the 1st coat thinned 50% and then a couple of full strength coats let dry for 3 days then sand lightly wioth 600 grit wet dry paper. Apply atop coat and sand again if nescssary then rup out with 0000 steel wool.
