ANTIQUE FURNITURE RESTORATION DISCUSSION BOARD

Antique Furniture Splitting

I have been restoring and selling antique furniture and have just moved to new sales premises and discoverd a new problem.

Items of furniture are splitting substantially across the top or sides.

I suspect it is related to heating operating during the winter months. The heater is a gas fired type which blows hot air. The inside building air temp is not hot but comfortable, the nightime temp is quite cold (frost outside).

Could this be a problem related to temperature extremes or humidity (I suspect that humidity may be a problem).

Could anyone help with some advice.

thanks Chris
