scratches and inkstain on old oak table

I have bought an old oak topped kitchen table. It was a good price but I have taken a risk because it has several diagonal scratches and what looks like a large inkstain. The scratches don't look deep. I reckoned on being able to sand the whole surface with an orbital sander, which perhaps might get rid of the inkstain. If not, is there some product that would disolve the inkstain? Perhaps I could also try steaming the scratches out. I should very much appreciate any help/advice you were able to give. Many thanks, in anticipation.
