In Response To: Refinishing Nightmare ... HELP! (Valerie)

First, you have been the victim of a trend, many people have become mesmerized with the thrill of the refinishing product, one that promises a fresh look in an old item. The idea is that you are promised a new surface as though it is a method of caring for something that can't love you back, or someone who isn't around to notice your concern any more. These are not the best reasons for refinishing. The second thing is that if you thought you were getting a refinish, and paid for a refinish then you have been had. the contract, or work order should have stated stripping, and refinishing, or I would hope so. You had a verbal contract, at the least, that entitled you to expect a new finish that resembled the old shellac. If you did not receive exactly what was conveyed to you in oral or written form, then you have been deceived, and should demand that the proper job be fulfilled before you file a claim in county court. Many refinishers have a lot of pride in delivering what is expected, they must uphold their image to the public. I think many papers print stories about deceptive workmanship, and the public has a right to know. Do your damnedest to get what you were charged for, or a refund.
