Again, I want to express the sentiment here, that I am not trying to butt heads with James. We are both opinionated, and knowledgeable, and I hope that with our different backrounds and techniques, we're putting forth a wide swath of knowledge here, without too much abrasion. Here is a link to Jeff Jewitt's excellent breakdown on finishes. He describes the "long and short" on oils (haha..;-)...as well as just about everything else you could want to know about finishing. He has compiled an excellent website, complete with some excellent products including the TransTint dyes I rave about, shellac additives like flattener and shellac wet, one of the best selections of shellac anywhere.....and everyone who reads this forum and does any finishing on a regular basis should spend time on his site reading, ordering, and bookmark it.
