Good Grief..What a job

I am trying to remove a urethane finish someone applied to a double pressed back rocking chair. This is my first attempt at removing poly and I'm not liking it one bit LOL. It looks like someone stripped the chair and painted on the poly. They did not stain. Just poly applied to bare wood (several coats yuk) My stripper says "for Poly", and it does soften it, but just doing the pressed back section took 5 applications of stripper and a wire brush to remove. Any ideas? At this rate it seems I have found my winters work. The chair is birch by the way. Many thanks to the folks here who take the time to help us.
