refinishing? limbert arts & crafts table

I recently acquired a small oak "Limbert" arts & crafts table (maker's imprint under table top) This table consists of two vertical solid side pieces (each with an upidedown heart cutout) and a horizontal solid piece of oak across the bottom that intersects the sides. It is nicely crafted and rock solid....But ...someone stripped the finish off the table top. The top measures 15" X 20". The rest is most certainly the original finish. The original finish, while not great, is no doubt salvagable. Any suggestions on what to do with the top? Also, the top has suffered some minor abuse, gouges etc.... and has a surpringly large knot in it that is missing. Help!!!!!!!!!! would be greatly apreciated.
