Mold in an old secratary...

I have an old circa 1930's drop top secratary with a hutch on top that belonged to my Great Aunt. The hutch has a glass door, with some srcoll work over it the glass. We opened the door the other day and found the inside of the bottom of the door gray with mold. My husband is highly allergic to mold. Needless to say this is a problem. My question is what can I do to save this piece, if anything. We cleaned the door and put some lemon oil on it. A few days later I put a thin coat of spar varnish over the area that molded. Now we have found more mold inside the desk part. There are lots of small spaces there that make it difficult to clean out.

My choices are to try to have the piece restored professionally, or get rid of it. Would a refinishing of the piece solve the problem? Is it worth the effort, or is this something that will continue regardless of any effort to save it.

thanks
